RadioScape (moduli per radio digitale) fallisce e riapre

E' stato a lungo l'unico modulo ibrido disponibile e utilizzato per la costruzione di ricevitori multimodo compatibili con Digital Audio Broadcast e Digital Radio Mondiale, prima che all'orizzonte comparissero brand come Analog Devices o Mirics. Il modulo si chiamava RS500 e veniva prodotto da RadioScape, una azienda britannica fondata nel 1996, quando sembrava che il futuro della radio digitale sarebbe stato sfavillante.
Le cose sono andate un po' diversamente. Di ricevitori basati sul modulo RS500 ne sono usciti pochissimi. Quello forse più promettente, progettato da Sangean, non è mai stato commercializzato dopo una lunga fase prototipale. Alla fine RadioScape è stata messa in amministrazione controllata, il 30 aprile scorso, a dimostrazione di quanto sia difficile costruire un caso di successo nella spietata industria del silicio, della componentistica e del software quando non si ha a che fare con obiettivi di mercato consistenti. Ora aspettiamo tutti l'annunciato ricevitore DRM della società francese UniWave, annunciato per luglio ed en quantité limitée.
Ieri invece mi è arrivato un comunicato molto avaro di dettagli sulla ristrutturazione di RadioScape. Che adesso avrebbe anche una nuova compagine azionaria, dei nuovi padroni (in precedenza c'erano dei fondi di venture capital, l'operatore infrastrutturale britannico Arqiva, Texas Instruments e altri). Sul sito web dell'azienda è rimasto tutto come prima, si trova solo la notizia della messa in amministrazione. Nel comunicato si dice che RadioScape parteciperà agli eventi di settore, incluso l'IBC di Amsterdam, e che verrà assicurata la "continuità" dei prodotti. Continuità? Non so quanto possa essere vincente come strategia visto come sono andate a finire le cose.

The commitment of Broadcast Team during the short period of Administration and the confidence shown by its large existing client base and prospective customers was able to ensure the on going security of the company, the products and the brand.
RadioScape is once again fully operational with its customer facing technical and commercial teams remaining totally unchanged.
The new management have a clear path for RadioScape to pursue in the coming months:-

  • The successful range of products will be continue to be supported and extended by the existing technical team.
  • Customers relationship will be maintained and improved upon by the existing commercial team.
  • All existing commercial and technical commitments of RadioScape will be respected
  • Pending customer expectations will be adhered to where possible.

The new, solid financial resources now in place are immediately available to increase RadioScape's endeavours in the Eureka 147 domain - upon which the company's reputation for Quality and Innovation have been built to date.
RadioScape will be present on all the major exhibitions in the Broadcast industry including IBC 2009 in Amsterdam. RadioScape will be at Broadcast Asia 2009.
