"Pirate Radio USA" è un documentario indipendente prodotto per Reclaim the Media e distribuito da Bside (ancora una discussione sul Lato B...) a Seattle. Già presentato in occasione di numerosi festival, ora Pirate Radio USA viene proiettato nelle sale e può essere acquistato via Internet sul sito del distributore. La storia parla ovviamente della pirateria radiofonica americana, prendendo le mosse dalla legge del 1996, sottoscritta da Clinton, che autorizzò i grandi gruppi mediatici a concentrare e controllare un numero ancora maggiore di emittenti. Il lungo trailer che si può vedere sul sito Bside racconta della nascita della FCC e dell'evoluzione della normativa verso l'attuale deregulation, affrontando le motivazioni che spingono alla nascita di stazioni illegali come Free Radio Berkeley. Non è uno scontro tra destra e sinistra, dicono gli autori, ma tra grande e piccolo.

WHAT: Winner of multiple film festival awards/distinctions, "Pirate Radio USA" is a locally produced documentary that will premiere in Seattle on Sunday, October 21. Presented by "Reclaim the Media," the film is part of a mini-festival that includes workshops and panel discussions, as well as screenings of three new documentaries, all at the intersection of community media, social justice activism and participatory democracy. Jeff Pearson and Mary Jones, Pirate Radio USA filmmakers and producers of local cable cult favorites "Deface the Nation" and "All U Can Stomach," will be in attendance, available for media interviews beforehand and participating in a Q&A afterward. A digital download of the film is available for any press interested in reviewing the film in advance.

FILM DETAILS: DJ Him and DJ Her take viewers on a rock-n-roll tour through the underground world of illegal radio in America, where people play what they want and say what they want - unless the FCC catches them. The film uses a riotous DIY approach to show low-wattage radio "Davids" as they battle to free the radio airwaves from mass media "Goliaths" and ultimately discover the real price of freedom.
